128 MU, RAF ABYAD 1954

As Remembered By Terry Lisamore

The start of it all at Lytham St Annes, Blackpool

RAF Fayid, February 1954

Police section at RAF Fayid in February 1954 - The Sgt at the front is the reason I had the good luck to go to Abu Sultan

The Police Station at Abu Sultan – I actually went in there once on business and wondered whether I’d get out alive

The view of the technical site from an O.P. at Abu Sultan
- It was barren

Looking in the other direction from the O.P. the road to 9 BAD

Patrolling the 32 miles of perimeter wire in what was known as the Danger Area where the explosives were stored

One of the bomb carriers which was a Leyland Matador

Trip to dance in Fayid
– we didn’t have any dancing partners
My job was to see that everyone got back safely

? George Shuttleworth of the RAOC at 9 BAD

A mock ‘funeral’ for Ashworth

The Christmas card for 128 MU Abu Sultan 1954

Christmas morning 1954 taken by Flt Sgt George who I believe was killed in the air crash at Malta. From left to right: LAC Wheatley, Cpl Fowler, Cpl Rushworth, Wilson, Hodson & Brian Ashworth. Front: Me & LAC Plackett

Morgan with one of the auxiliaries - they were mostly Sudanese

Me & LAC ‘Scouse’ Morgan who was tried for murder – sentenced to hang but commuted to imprisonment by the referral to the Home Secretary whom I think was R.A. Butler. He was always cheerful and I felt very sorry for him
